Ocean Odyssey is a roguelite hack-and-slash made for our senior capstone project. You play as Miyo, a cat seeking vengeance against the sea creatures who killed their parents. With help from the Professor, you gain abilities to upgrade or swap as you fight through room after room of enemies on the way to the boss.
Summarized Contribution
Led creative direction, guiding the design process to keep every element aligned with the project's vision and schedule.
Documented the design workflow and production schedule, working closely with my co-lead to keep all disciplines in sync.
Built in-engine tools that let artists and writers create the game's 10 comic-style cutscenes on their own.
BEHIND THE SCENE
Implementation Documentation
Created flowcharts mapping out the boss's abilities, AI behavior, and environmental interactions, giving the engineers and I a shared blueprint when prototyping and building the encounter.
Mockups & Storyboards
Designed mockups and storyboards to show the team how the boss fight should look and play before tasks were handed out. The mockups set the visual direction, and the storyboards walked through the fight moment to moment, from the boss's attacks to how players should respond. With a shared picture of the prototype from the start, team members could work in parallel with fewer questions and less rework.
